MAGIC LA-NIGHT 30.1.2010

I have a number unchecked files from Muhos and Lemmenjoki as well. Last summer I checked one LA-night recorded on the 30th-31st January 2010. I was suprised to have excellent conditions! It is time to publish the log ;-)

Unfortunatelly I had only two IQ´s (center fq´s 910, 1110) working. I had to use one month to analyze the material and found 105 stations. The log contains all of them, even dominants. If could have recorded the whole AM band, the number of identified stations would have been around 300 I suppose. Stations were fading from an amazingly wide area: Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, western Venezuela, Panama, western West Indies from 2330 to 0400 utc. This was almost as fascinating opening as on the 22nd and 24th of October this season (log published before). Anyway, these three dates have been the most interesting LA-openings I have had in Muhos since 2002.

Special attention to Henrik Klemetz (HK) who helped me to solve several cases!

CONDITIONS 24TH AND 25TH DECEMBER

Mixed conditions during Christmas (from Orinoco to NA). I am not going to dig much conditions like this. However, I noticed KWAD 920 on the 24th at 04.oo utc. It is a new one for me.

I am heading to Lemmenjoki tomorrow. Jim will be there on the 28th.

I have spent 5 or 6 weeks analyzing exceptionally good LA conditions on the 22nd and 24th of October. Those days ar the best ones I have had in Muhos so far.

-40 new loggings for me (30 SA, 3 CA, 7 NA)
-3 stations I have logged only on SW before
-5 stations to report again with better detais

Jari Vanhatalo, JVA, has created an ingenious system how to analyze conditions scientifically. The program needs exact splits of stations heard before. If you learn to analyze all the material this system gives you can save a lot of time. Anyway, the most important thing is to know exact frequencies of heard LA-stations. Otherwise it is very hard to find new stations. Many thanks to Jari who also participated in checking the files when testing his creation.

CONDITIONS

I have spent three days at my cottage in Muhos. I have had plenty of time to listen to old files due to useless conditions towards LA and NA. Only some most common stations have been audible. Amazingly bad conditions! I have been digging files from the 22nd of October. The best loggings so far are CRE Guayaquil 560, Radio Colon AM 780, Radio Aguila Guayaquil 1050, Ondas del Meta Villavicencio 1170, Caracol Monteria 1310, Radio Maria Medellín 1320, WJNX Ft. Pierce FL 1330, WFOY ST. Augustine FL 1240, WHSR Pompano Beach FL 980 (tent), Radio Caribe, Isla de la Juventus 1220 ...

MUHOS QTH UNDER RECONTSRUCTION

Hi folks

I am back again having had quite a reconstruction in Muhos. It took more than 70 hours to do all that I wanted. Now everything should be under control. My aerials are now as follows:
240 (249) 730 meters
250 (259) 1000 meters
272 (281) 850 meters
282 (291) 930 meters
294 (303) 900 meters
305 (314) 1030 meters

I had excellent conditions towards LA from 22nd to 24th of October. However, I haven´t checked those files yet. Later that week conditions were almost useless.

I am in Muhos right now. I checked the conditions on Friday night and last night as well. Conditions were useless to any directions. Only some of the most common stations were audible. It was the same in Lemmenjoki.

This station has been on sale for two years. Therefore there is no staff in Amherst MA.
An engineering company keeps WPNI´s transmitter warm by relaying WUMB-FM, an University station in Boston, 24 hours a day. QSL was signed by Mr. Grady Moates who is WUMB´s chief engineer. Grady also contacted the engineering company in Amherts to find out the technical details at the time of my reception. They had turned to 11 watts at 6 PM EDT on the 20th of October 2009. I heard them at 5 PM EDT with 5 kw. MA-QSL no. 37.

AIH5-EXPEDITION

Hi

I have spent 7 days with Markku Jussila, MJ, in Aihkiniemi testing a band new listening QTH.
Due to a minor proton event last Friday listening conditions have been mostly useless.
There is not much to tell about our catches. Some new reports from the Mountains anyway (KXLO 1230, KBLY 1260). AIH5 will sign off today on Thursday or Friday depending on the expected interference.

We have had plenty of time to check the old files. The most interesting station I found is WPNI Amherst MA recorded in Muhos on the 20th October 2009 at 2100 utc.
